4/16/06 Ytading Paint - Car Of Tomorrow
Jerry, I think your take on the Car of Tomorrow is way off the mark. I’m really excited to see the type of racing this kind of car will bring to the race track, with slower speeds and less aero-push effect on the car and driver. And, as to your fear that people won’t buy a car that doesn’t look like the one Junior is racing, that doesn’t happen anyway. I’m in a major metropolitan area and I’m lucky to see one or two Monte Carlos a day. Manufacturers who venture into NASCAR aren’t looking for model-specific marketing anyway – if they were, there would be a NASCAR SUV series in the works.
If American auto manufacturers pull out of NASCAR for financial reasons, NASCAR best have a way for Honda and Nissan to get in quick, and that’s what the COT provides. When that happens, yeah, it will be sad that there are no American cars in the field. But this is America, this is capitalism, and if Ford, GM and Chrysler are getting beat in the showroom, shame on them for not offering Americans a better product.
