6/04/06 Trading Paint - JPM in NASCAR

I think when all is said and done, Juan Pablo Montoya’s announcement that he is coming to NASCAR will go down as a monumental moment in the sport’s history. If one pulls back and looks at the full picture, with the Car of Tomorrow, Toyota and all of that, Montoya fits in perfectly. He represents the first sign of international legitimacy and that alone bodes well for NASCAR’s future. Whether this is a future that NASCAR traditionalists are willing to embrace is another story, as is whether JPM will be successful in a tin-topper.

But the fact that these things are happening demonstrates that NASCAR isn’t simply willing to be America’s favorite motorsport – they want to own the world as well. Give ‘em a generation and they just may accomplish that.
