Bernie Says JPM Back to F1?
Reports on several F1 sites are quoting Bernie Ecclestone as saying he believes when all is said and done, Juan Pablo Montoya will be back in F1 next year. He goes on to recognize that JPM is a “special character” and Ecclestone would hate to see him go.
Hmmm, sounds like Bernie is realizing that some fans enjoy watching racers, and for better or worse JPM is a racer in a series filled with high-tech pilots. It may also be that F1 realizes Montoya brings South Americans of Latin lineage to the show and that marketing reality hurts a bit.
So, what kind of scenario would have to unfold for Juan to dump on good buddy Chip Ganassi and return to the F1 circus? I imagine that it would have to be a good, podium frequenting team and I don’t think any of those seats are available for 2007. Either that, or HUGE break-the-bank money. To see Montoya bolt back to F1 for big money in a noncompetitive ride would be disappointing. I would hate to see Chip and the rest of us get played, and somehow I don’t think Juan would do that. but who knows? Big money is big money.
Sounds more like wishful thinking on Bernie’s part…
