Busch Series: Carfax 250 Thoughts
Things that caught my eye during the Carfax 250 at Michigan:
-Me likes the Mountain Dew throwback paint scheme driven by Brian Vickers in Saturday’s Busch race. Reminds us all of a time when Darrell Waltrip was as dominant as it gets…
-Funny. I recall Carl Edwards spinning out a certain Dale Earnhardt Jr. late in a 2004 Fall race at Atlanta. Does Jr. really have an elephant’s memory? Edwards’ spin of the #8 back then was more costly in the grand scheme of things, as Earnhardt was in the midst of a heated points battle with the likes of Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and eventual champ Kurt Busch…
-Speaking of Edwards, did he mince his words or what in his post-race interview?! Carl evidentally isn’t stupid and realizes that taking on fan favorite Junior also means tangling with the Earnhardt Nation at large. Bodyguard rental ain’t cheap…
-Wonder if the way the Cup teams of Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch utilized the “Lucky Dog” rule in recent weeks is changing the way teams look at early race misfortune. In a single car incident in Saturday’s Carfax 250, Stephen Wallace’s #64 team took time to make thorough repairs losing two laps in the process, and still was back on the lead lap by lap 50 thanks to the rule. It can be said that making thorough repairs makes for safer racing, but I wonder for how much longer NASCAR will let the “Lucky Dog” be this generous…
-Did Mark Martin look burnt out to you all? All the talk recently has been that he is once again being guilted into remaining in Roush’s Cup stable for “one more season”. One more year? Either he should be up for an Academy Award, or he is truly tired of the Cup deal from the way he looked and sounded. Come on Jack, let the guy off the hook and put Todd Kluever in the #6, ready or not. Can’t be any more daring than what RYR is having to do…
-Junior’s win today was the 23rd time a Cup regular took one from the Busch guys in 25 races this year. Think the Car of Tomorrow idea sucks? Independent Busch owners sure don’t…
